Ryan Lovett Letter to Kilham, 1805

Abraham Kilham was a ship captain from Beverly. Lovett writes Abraham, his brother-in-law, to tell him that he arrived in Batavia but the markets are bad and there is no coffee or sugar to be had. The vessel is about to leave for Calcutta.

Batavia June 26th 1805 –

Dear Brother, 

            This will inform you of our arrival at this port but to very bad markets there being not a pound of Coffee or Sugar to be had at any price – we have been here 17 days & tomorrow we shall sail for Calcutta – the Cargo I brought out here I have sold for 30(?) on the Invoice – Respecting Insurance on my adventure I wish you to do as you think best – Remember me to all inquiring friends & tell them we are all in very good health –
