Noah Hanson Letter to Hannah Rantoul, Beverly 1863

This document is a thank you letter from Noah B. Hanson to Hannah Rantoul for the “paper” that she sent to him.

The Hannah Rantoul Collection is part of a larger collection of items belonging to the Rantoul family of Beverly, Massachusetts. Hannah Rantoul served as a liaison for the New England Sanitary Commission in the Beverly area and received many letters from servicemen and their families, thanking her for her efforts to procure donations of provisions, clothing, blankets, and other badly needed supplies for various Massachusetts infantries during the Civil War.

[Roanoke] island Feb 15, 1863

Miss Rantoul I thank
you much for that
paper as it is the
only one I have received
since we have bin on the
Island we have major wallis
And two more Companies
Of our regiment with us now
it is not so lonesum if we
had our Chaplin and doctor it
would appear more like home
we are all well and enjoy ourselves
