Track the changing populations of Salem in the early twentieth century with census documents. Most people appearing on these pages are recorded as Polish and Irish, but a few are described as Greek, Swedish and Can. French. Notice that those born in Poland are distinguished between “Russ Polish” (Russia) and “Aust Polish” (Austria Hungary). Pay attention also to the years of immigration, most of which are recorded in the decades preceding the census. Click here for selections from the 1900 census in Salem.
