American History in a Global Context
July 13 - 17, 2009

Join us for Using ESSEX History's last summer institute! During the week of July 13th (July 13-17), Using ESSEX History will host a summer institute examining the theme, "American History in a Global Context." This seminar will feature some of our participants' favorite scholars discussing the following topics: The American Revolution in an Atlantic Context, Women and Reform in the Atlantic World, Immigration and Urbanization, and Cold War Civil Rights. Because the methodology seminars have been so popular in the past, the week will conclude with a discussion with trained Oral Historian Dr. Andrew Darien (Salem State College) on how to create and facilitate oral history projects in your own classrooms. As usual, the week will bring us to some wonderful historic sites such as the JFK Museum, Lawrence Heritage State Park, and more! Participating teachers will also receive 3 graduate credits from Salem State College's History Department at no cost to them and a $1,000 stipend.
